- Has all of the news about the NSA spying on pretty much everyone and intercepting much of the electronic communication in the US slowed cloud adoption?

- How can I change an old Word document that is a DOC file to the current DOCX file format? It is a pretty long document, so I would really like to avoid messing up the formatting and needing to go back and fix everything manually. Thanks.

- 1. Click on the “Add Audio” icon on the edit post page. 2. Select “Choose Files to Upload.” 3. Enter a title for the audio file in the “Title” text box. 4. Enter a caption for it in the “Caption” text box. 5. Enter a description in the...wait for it…..”Description” text box.

- Microsoft keep making tweaks to Windows 8, after it received decidedly mixed reviews. What is Microsoft likely to change this time around? Is there a release date yet?

- You are probably looking at at least $500, although you could pick up a decent Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 for around $250. An EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express will cost you about $500, and should be sufficient for everything except really high end gaming at max resolution, assuming the rest of your machine is up to snuff.

- It makes sense that placing the repeater where the signal is already weak wouldn’t help. Set it up in your house as close to the neighbor’s house as possible.

- I’m pretty happy with Android, but I must admit that the newest Windows Phones have been catching my eye recently, particularly the Nokia 920. If anyone has made this switch, what apps that you consider important did you lose making the switch.

- The appearance of depth on the home screen is caused by parallax effect, which Apple uses for one reason: to look cool. You can lessen parallax effect by going to iDevice Settings>General>Accessibility>Reduce Motion.

- Yahoo, of all places, has a solid tutorial on the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). You can access it here: http://developer.yahoo.com/hadoop/tutorial/module2.html

- I prefer having a physical copy of software, and that goes for everything from business software at my office to video games at home. Some companies are pushing hard to get away from physical copies, though, most recently Adobe with Photoshop. Are we at the end of the era of CD/DVD based software?

- Yes, you can go into the settings (click the little gear icon on the top right), click “inbox” and uncheck all the categories you don’t want. If you uncheck them all, it will stop sorting any of your emails. You might want to try it for a little while though, once you get used to it, you might like it.

- More details have come out about Windows Blue: it will be a free upgrade to Windows 8.1 for Windows 8 users. One thing I wasn't expecting is that it will also be available for Windows RT, which could be a nice upgrade. What does Microsoft really need to change on Windows 8.1 to make users of the most recent version of Windows like it more?

- How can I tell if an app uses the auto save and versions features in Mountain Lion?

- You can zap your PRAM/NVRAM by restarting your machine and pressing Command+Option+P+R. Make sure to hold keys down until it restarts. I would continue to do it until it restarts again, but I'm honestly not sure whether there is any benefit to doing so or if it is an old Mac wives tale.

- Chicago Parking is the one I really know, but it hasn't been updated in over a year, so I have stopped using it. The same developer had similar apps for LA, NYC, etc., but I'm not sure if those have also been abandoned. I think you pretty much have to be in a large urban environment to get good information.

- I think the most obvious alternative for data centers is a natural gas backup generator. Start time is longer than with diesel though, so you have to take that into account. There is also the issue of potential interruption of natural gas supply in the event of some natural disasters, such as earthquake.

- I was wondering if anyone that had already upgraded to Mountain Lion thought there were any reason not to upgrade. Mountain Lion is a major update to OS X, and I don't want to jump right in if there are changes for the worse. How do people like it so far? Any issues?

- I didn't have any problems, and I didn't hear of other people having any issues either.

- I remember Steve Jobs talking about the Retina display as being the limits of what is the human eye can discern. Was he right? Have we reached, for lack of a better term, visual perfection for displays as far as the human eye is concerned?

- jlister asks Are you worried that this weeks leak of LinkedIn/last.fm/eHarmony will compromise your employees' passwords?Whenever I learn about another password hack, I just send out my stock "password hack" email. Essentially, it says, "Hey, I know none of you little angels would use your work account passwords for personal stuff, but...." So that went out Monday for LinkedIn, Wednesday for eHarmony, then again today for last.fm.

- Jonathan Ive, correction, SIR Jonathan Ive, Apple's senior VP of industrial design made reference to what Apple is working on now, and called it "the most important and best work we've done." That is saying something coming from a guy who worked on the iPod, iPhone and iPad. Any ideas what it could be?
