  • I've never had any problem with either an iPad or iPad mini causing eye stain. The outstanding displays are one of the best things about them, in reality, and I say this as an Android user . Maybe the air gap bothers some people, but not anyone I've ever talked to, and that includes the two people with iPads I just asked about it.

  • YouTube doesn't require Chrome to play, so I'm not sure why it is telling you that. It may be suggesting it since Google=YouTube=Chrome, but I know with 100% certainty you don't have to use Chrome. It does require an updated version of Flash, and not just Shockwave, but it sounds like you have that covered.

  • So I looked at the Amazon listing and didn't see anything about the proceeds being donated to charity. To which charity specifically do you intend to donate? Do you plan to donate all of the proceeds, or just a portion?

  • After bitcoin's loss in value earlier this week, I don't know if you are still interested, but if you are: How to mine bitcoins: http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/08/how-to-mine-bitcoins/ How to get them the old fashioned way (buy them): https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Buying_Bitcoins_(the_newbie_version)

  • I was about to get all snarky and point out that T-Mobile was so far behind AT&T, Verizon and Sprint that the others wouldn't even notice that T-Mobile had done anything.....then I saw a headline that Verizon announced a $35 per month no-contract plan.

  • I grew up in North Carolina, so I may be a touch biased. In the public schools, our teachers would bring in small TVs during the ACC tourney and leave it on all day with the sound off. I did ok in school, got into a couple decent colleges, and turned out more or less ok. It's a minor thing. Why try to take every bit of joy out of work?

  • I happen to have done both - I went to a medium-sized state university undergrad (Go Catamounts!), and an internationally recognized university for grad school (Go Irish!). From a student's perspective, I definitely saw a disparity in resources, which would be expected. The quality of professors was fairly comparably, somewhat to my surprise.

  • Most likely it will mean a tighter integration, and perhaps in time total integration, of the Android OS and Chrome OS. Which makes sense - why develop and support two different OSes?

  • A few years ago I went to lunch with a friend. It was a Wednesday, and I said something along the lines of, "Thank goodness it's Wednesday. Only two more days left of this." He looked at me, and after a moment said, "Two more days? You mean thirty more years." I felt as if someone had thrown a glass of cold water in my face.

  • RFC 951 is the basic bootstrap protocol that was designed to do little more than assign an IP address to a client along with a few other resources that could be vendor defined. I think RFC 1048 BOOTP extensions include a time offset field that specifies that time offset from UTC, but I'm not 100% certain.

  • It's getting there. Most of the current high-end devices, including the iPhone 5, iPad and Galaxy S III support 5GHz. I would expect within a year it will be pretty much universal on new devices, even though it isn't now.

  • First, check that Procmail is installed as you MDA. If so, at a console prompt enter: service spamassassin status   If spamassassin is not running enter the command: chkconfig --level 35 spamassassin on

  • I would just wire up a power outlet and mount it on your bike. You can wire it directly to your battery (use in-line fuse) and mount it pretty much anywhere. Then you won't have to worry about it. At all.

  • Just open the browser and go to the top left "Firefox" tab > Add-ons in drop down menu > Beside "Java(TM) Platform" click disable. That's all there is too it. It would be even better to go into the Java Console and disable it under the security tab, so that you don't have to worry about it if you, or anyone else, uses a different browser.

  • For starters I wouldn't worry too much about John McCain's position on anything.

  • There are some different options out there, but here are three that I have found userful: Cross Browser Testing Browsershots Xenocode Browser Sandbox

  • Er, maybe.  First off, there is always the catch-22 that most companies want to hire developers with experience, but you can't get experience unless someone hires you (or you do work for yourself).  Secondly, the job market varies so much from place to place that what is true in California wouldn't necessarily be true in Chennai.

  • I'm not sure that you can.  There are Bluetooth keyboards for Windows 8 and RT devices. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/tablet-accessories/keyboards/tablet-keyboa...

  • 1. Downtime/Uptime. 2. Customer satisfaction. 3. Compliance and Risks. 4. Cost and Benefits. 5. Employee Satisfaction.   I personally would like to add Krispy Kreme donut availability on Mondays, but I suppose that is rolled into number 5.

  • Don't forget the Zune.  Maybe they have such happy memories of the Zune's sucess that they want to revisit it.  Sorry, it's Monday, or as I like to call it "Snarkday".

  • I just use graphic intensive games that work my phones hard enough to heat them up.  Then the phone becomes a hand warmer itself, albeit a rather expensive one.

  • I use VLC to play pretty much everything,  It's open source and available for most OSes, including Windows, Mac OS, GNU/Linux, Android, and Solaris.  It's free, but you can donate if you like the player, which you probably will. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

  • Go in to your DHCP server and make an IP address reservation for your printer.  You may have to look at your router documentation to find the exact process if you can figure it out on your own, but that should take care of the issue.  Good luck!
