Friday afternoon Valve let loose with a hype-filled announcement about a revolutionary new controller. Since then some game developers with hands-on experience have reported mostly positive experiences with this new gadget.

I'm not sure that I see the CIO as the quarterback, but the coach. The best CIOs focus on big picture (See "Sharpening Your Business Focus "on Enterprise CIO Forum) ... making others better and seeing system opportunities for change. That quarterback should be a VP of IT ... a "CIO in waiting" of sorts. --Paul Calento

Thanks for the comment; I always forget about emulation and all the button-aware titles it brings to the table.

It looks like I jumped the gun a bit; here're a few Playstation news tidbits that came out following the press conference we talked about yesterday.

At a Tokyo Game Show press conference Sony shares sales forecasts for the PS4...and not much more in the way of new info.

I'm old, my eyes are bad, my fingers are clumsy (I don't have much feeling in the fingertips of my left hand due to an old injury)... swapping in a new video card and power supply was enough of a challenge for me these days. When I was young and strong I actually built systems for a medical electronics firm (we sold heart monitors and PCs to go with them back when you couldn't assume a doctor's office would have a PC...am I dating myself!!?) so I have the know-how to do it. Or did anyway. I still get freaked out that I won't get the thermal-paste applied correctly. The next time, though, I might buy the components and get a local custom PC shop to build for me. I've heard a lot of places will do that for not a lot of $$ and I'm sure I'd wind up with a much better system.

pasmith wrote Valve's Gabe Newell is talking Linux and gaming again. Is this the return of the Steam Box? There was a lot of excitement about a dedicated Linux gaming system for the living room last winter, but then things went quiet. Now Valve's Newell teases an announcement coming next week.2 weeks 6 days ago

Sony's Andrew House spilled some more details on the Vita TV and all of them sounded great except the part about "No Vita TV for you!"

Yes, at least for PS1 titles that have been made available in the PSN store. PSP titles often run on the Vita even if they're not 'officially supported' and I assume the same would be true for Vita TV.

Sure but for instance that Hulu app has been being worked on since E3 2012. I'm assuming Hulu isn't in a big rush to deliver, given the small install base of the Vita in the US. Maybe the situation is different in Japan where the Vita is more popular. I'm not meaning to argue with you; I'd LOVE to see more native Vita streaming apps (watching Netflix on the Vita's OLED screen is awesome). But until we get those natively on the Vita/Vita TV platform, we could stream from the PS4.

pasmith commented on Have Apple's events lost their 'wow' factor?Exactly. I guess I'm just feeling like it's been quite a while since Apple surprised us... y'know, brought out a product that doesn't have an incremented number at the end of its name. I was hoping for an iWatch or an iGame (like an Apple TV that comes with a game controller and can run games from the App Store) (products like these have both been rumored to be in the works) or something else so far out that I can't even dream it up and that we haven't heard rumors about. There's nothing wrong with a newer, faster iPhone, but there's nothing the least bit surprising about it, either.

Yup, I assume it would have it's own Netflix, but the Vita doesn't have Hulu or Amazon (for example) while the PS3 does (and I hope the PS4 will as well) so for those services you'd have to stream from the 'main' console.
