  • If I’m honest, I suppose that the first thing I look at is price, but unless the service is reliable that’s not important. Free junk is still junk. The first important thing I would look for is reviews from past and current customers. There are always a few unhappy people, but if you start to see a pattern of complaints, look elsewhere.

  • I’m not sure what the situation is like where you are, but one way to gauge current demand is simply to look at the job listing in local trade newspapers or magazines and compare the number of positions for Salesforce developers and Hadoop developers.

  • Obviously there are differences in compression and sound quality, but does anyone know of an objective measure of the differences? I don’t have the time or patience to try them all out, but I’m hoping someone else has!

  • Hmmmm, I can't think of that many "L" candies or sweets. Maybe Lemondrop, but a "lemon" is something that doesn't work as intended in automotive terms, so they would likely avoid that one. Licorice would please me, since I like it, but a lot of people don't and I doubt Google wants to elicit a "yuck" reaction.

  • Make Use Of has a pretty thorough how-to guide, I suggest checking that out. The easiest way is to use the ATA Secure Erase command. This essentially resets your SSD.

  • It depends on what you are looking to achieve, but I would look for software that included blocking capabilities as well as monitoring. It might not be very popular, but in my experience restricting access to social media sites can significantly improve productivity.

  • Probably the most effective thing you can do without root access is use a different launcher to replace the TouchWiz launcher. I’d probably go with Nova, available on the Play store. Go into settings and apps and disable as many of the TouchWiz functions as possible, except of course the ones that you do like.

  • You will need to pay $99 and join Apple’s iOS Developer program. However, are you really sure that you want the beta on your iPhone? It’s beta for a reason - it’s not ready for public use yet.

  • It uses Bluetooth LE, which has an effective range of 50-150 feet, depending on the conditions where you use it. If you count on 50 feet of reliabe range you probably won't be disappointed.

  • There is, and it is super easy. Just say, “Learn how to pronounce Abe’s name.” Obviously, don’t actually say Abe unless that is a name being mispronounced.

  • Found this tip on Wired. If you go to this Netflix video link you will get a test video that shows streaming rate a and quality on the upper left.

  • As a former dorm Super Smash Bros Melee champion in college, I can answer this one. First of all, the next generation Super Smah Bros. for the Wii U is going to be released soon. For those that aren't familiar with this game, it is a multiplayer fighter that is pretty easy to pick up and play. and is a LOT of fun with friends.

  • The best explaination I've read was from The Register: "Fat-fingered admin downs entire Joyent data center." Apparently, software on some servers was being remotely updated, and when the admin tried to reboot the updated servers, he or she accidentially rebooted ALL of

  • How can I use a printer that does not come with Google Cloud Print capability out of the box. I just got a Brother laser printer and installed it on my network, but I can't seem to figure out how to add it to Cloud Print.

  • You are going to need an email at a college/university, so you may be out of luck if you don't have an .edu email address.

  • I haven't received anything from ebay either. Considering the potential risk to users (What do you mean, I just bought a Rolls Royce?!?!), this seems like a pretty irresponsible move on ebay's part. Thanks for the heads up.

  • I think it’s fair to say most of us understand a lot more about just how pervasive US government monitoring is in light of the Snowden revelations. I also think it’s fair to say that there was even more outrage about it in other countries.

  • I know that Yahoo just announced that it will ignore the Do Not Track (“DNT”) requests of visitors to its sites, but how can you tell if other websites are ignoring it?

  • It shouldn’t, although battery life might not be as long as if you had used it with normal partial discharge cycles. Modern chargers don’t overcharge, they shut off or reduce charging to a trickle. usually just short of a full charge.

  • I was looking at an error log on a Windows 7 PC, and one of the notes was that “video memory resources are overutilized, thrashing happening as a result.” What does thrashing mean in this context?

  • I would go with 22MHz, 16-bit stereo, which is comparable to FM radio quality audio. 8KHz, 8-bit mono is comparable to telephone quality audio, which might get the job done but people will most likely notice the low fidelity.

  • After my wife’s Galaxy S4 was updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, at least a third of her apps are missing. Her phone is not rooted, Is there any way to recover these other than reinstalling them all individually from Play?

  • It’s pretty rare to have two video ports on a laptop, which is what would make it easiest to connect two external monitors (I’m not sure about your laptop specifically). There are cables available that split the signal from one port to two monitors, so you might want to see if you can use one of those with your laptop.

  • The top three things I would do would be: 1. Make sure that you have installed all of the updates/patches that Microsoft has released before May 13. 2. Remove any unused software and make sure to update anything that is left. Leave your antivirus software in place and make sure that it is updated.

  • I checked my Google account activity using the link at the bottom right of Gmail (saw this on an ITworld question last week, incidentally), and under “access type” there are a number of times that “Atom feed” accessed my account. I was freaked out for a second, but then I noticed the IP address for Atom feed was the same as mine.
