This week on Joerg Sprave's Slingshot Channel, we get a bunch of weapons that you can make out of ordinary trash. Like the video he did on making weapons out of office supplies, this one will amaze you about how you can prepare yourself for the oncoming apocalypse, whether it's zombies, robots or other such doom and gloom.

The wonderful CGPGrey has another explainer video, this time discussing the history of the planets within our solar system, and why certain planets were granted planetary status, and why some were not.

Like Jack12's answer, I'd recommend iMovie as well - it comes free on new versions of Macs, but the price of a Mac is worth it in order to get the iMovie software. I'd say about 95% of your video projects can be completed with iMovie.

It's quite appropriate that on the 35th anniversary of Star Wars, we get another historic moment in the realm of space, but this time in real life.

We got so caught up in all of the May 4th "Star Wars Day" festivities a few weeks ago, that I almost forgot that today is the 35th anniversary of the premiere of Star Wars.

Last month we brought you a "trailer" for the fake movie featuring "Pac-Man" as if it were a live-action film. Today we bring you "Tetris" (hey, since they made a movie out of Battleship, why not see all those other games make it to film?)

I know there are a lot of problems in the world that need solving, but it's still nice to see some of the little ones get solved - like how to get all of the ketchup (or mayonnaise) out of a glass bottle.

The folks at Getty Images have posted a very cool ad for their stock photo image service, telling a story of a boy, a girl and their life through stock images only. Called "From Love to Bingo", the film is fascinating to watch.

The latest batch of celebrity ads pitching the Siri voice recognition function features John Malkovich, who has made a career out of playing off-kilter (dare I say creepy?) characters. In these two ads, Malkovich sits in a room alone, talking with Siri about life, and asking Siri to tell him a joke.

Check out this cool video that takes the first level of Super Mario Brothers and converts it to a stop-motion animation. It's so good that at first you don't realize that it's stop-motion. A nice touch is the "fail" at the end of the level, which most of us have experienced when playing this video game.

Video game companies release a lot of gameplay footage of its future games, and for the most part I tend to ignore the footage. But in this case, when you have footage of a Lego game and a Batman game, I can't resist posting them. Here are a bunch of videos of gameplay from Lego Batman 2, coming later this year, courtesy of IGN Entertainment:

There's a lot of videos out there of yesterday's solar eclipse (sadly, this East Coaster wasn't able to see the eclipse), but this one is the coolest one I've seen so far.

I've always been a fan of classical music, ever since I got hooked (pardon the pun) on "Hooked on Classics". So what a kick it was to see this video, in which the "Can Can" song is performed by the sounds of Super Mario Brothers.

Are you ready for a morning eye-roll? So TechCrunch Disrupt is going on this week. I don't know exactly what TechCrunch Disrupt's elevator pitch is, but I think it's safe to say it's a conference designed around new technology that is potentially disruptive, eh?

I don't often cover Apple rumors these days; there are just so many of them, most of which turn out to be completely wrong. But this week we seem to be seeing some kind of consensus on at least one aspect of the next iPhone: a bigger screen.

Yesterday saw a lot of column inches devoted to NUads, a new advertising technology coming to us from Microsoft this spring. The basic gist of the system is that, by using Microsoft Kinect, advertisers can let viewers interact with TV ads.

Almost since the first person shooter debuted, critics have warned it would make players more violent. Game developers have warned for just as long that rampant piracy was costing them billions and would drive them out of business. There is little evidence of any truth to either charge, or was until now.

With all of the controversy surrounding the Blu-Ray DVD release of the Star Wars saga, it was inevitable that the YouTube community would start creating more and more versions beyond just dubbing a Darth Vader "Nooooooooo!" into different scenes.

pasmith commented on GoDaddy goes from racy ads to the truly offensiveIt'll be interesting to see how GoDaddy chief executive Bob Parsons handles the continued fallout from his recent "vacation" in Zimbabwe. Parsons is taking the kind of heat that in early February forced fashion icon Kenneth Cole to apologize after he lamely tried to use political violence in Egypt to hype his company's "spring collection."1 year 8 weeks ago

pasmith commented on I'm sad that I'm happy about the WiFi XoomSo now it's official: the WiFi-only Motorola Xoom is launching on March 27th at seven different retailers. The price will be $599, and that price seems to be causing much rejoicing. In fact I was happy to hear it myself. And then I became very sad that the tablet manufacturers have me thinking of $600 as a great price for a tablet.1 year 10 weeks ago

pasmith commented on The Daily pains of a new media format [video]I was as anxious as anyone to download Rupert Murdoch's new media baby, The Daily, when it launched yesterday. What was the 'future of newspapers' on Apple's iPad going to look like? I booted the app wanting to hate it just because of the level of hubris displayed by those hyping the product ahead of launch.1 year 16 weeks ago

iOS game developers are starting to move to Android, but the platform isn't nearly as homogeneous as iOS is, and Google recently cut the refund window from 24 hours to 15 minutes. That means some gamers are finding themselves with broken apps and no means to get their money back.

Random House thinks people who receive an e-reader for Christmas will be unable to find e-books to read on it without their help. I think Random House just sees a great marketing opportunity cloaked in a free e-book.
