June 11, 2012, 2:15 PM — In this DigInfo News report, we learn about new technology from Japan that can take facial recognition features from webcams (not that new) but then also apply those changes to a real-time avatar - so instead of having a web chat with a person, you can have one with an animated character, and that avatar is reacting with the same movements as the human being.
I would expect to see this technology in video gaming and other communications-type applications.
