October 11, 2012, 10:43 AM — From our friends over at DigInfo News comes this video, showing a "Calligraphy Robot" that uses a "motion copy system" to help reproduce detailed brush work.
As this article points out, "unlike conventional motion capture systems, a feature of this one is [that] it can record and reproduce the force applied to the brush, as well as the sensation when you touch something."
While the video here shows the robot reproducing Japanese characters, I'm secretly hoping that they can develop a system where the robot can draw a caricature of me driving a dune buggy. Because I'd buy that.
