Tweeting at the office: Have you checked your contract?

Hey you -- the developer sitting in that suburban cube farm, happily twittering away about going to lunch, the bug report you're filing, and that startup idea that's been bouncing around your head lately. We hate to break it to you, but the work contract that you signed gives your company ownership of those tweets ... not to mention any Facebook posts, LinkedIn profile updates, and YouTube videos that you may have worked on or uploaded from a work machine or over your company's network.

Jaime Gesswein says it's his job to be paranoid. So when doctors and staff at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Va., began requesting access to YouTube to view medical videos and Facebook for monitoring patients' comments, Gesswein, who's in charge of network security, was more than a little skeptical.

YouTube's Anniversary: How HOTorNOT Started It All

YouTube is celebrating the third anniversary of its acquisition by Google by showing off an awful lot of O's. The little video site that could announced on Friday it was now streaming a full billion video views a day -- the majority of which, I have to assume, consist of cats playing music and teens doing awkward dances.

Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.
