Beamatron combines Kinect with projectors for augmented reality awesomeness

Project a car onto the ground, move it via Kinect and watch the fun happen!

Here's a cool video from Microsoft Research discussing the Beamatron, a combination of the Xbox 360 Kinect motion-capture camera and a projector. This combination lets you beam an object onto a physical surface, and then the motion-capture reacts to a player's movement (in this case, driving a virtual car over real surfaces and watching the system react). Very cool stuff.

Microsoft says another application of the Beamatron would be to bring notifications and other graphics to the attention of a user by automatically placing the graphics within the user's view. Something like, "Hey Dummy! You're about to get hit by a car!"
